Happy Earth Day Everyone!

Protect Our Species

Earth Day has been running since 1970 when millions of people took to the streets to protest the negative impacts of years and years of industrial development. With over one billion people expected to take part in this year’s Earth Day, WE WANT YOU to join in the action. Sustainability is an important feature of our surf camps and, each year, Star Surf Camps strive to ensure our surf camps have as little effect on the environment as possible.

The 2019 Earth Day theme is ‘Protect Our Species.’ Due to human activities, our world’s animal species are facing the quietest rate of extinction since the end of the dinosaurs. Much of this is the result of human activity. so this Earth Day we urge you to join us in making small but long lasting changes to ensure our species don’t disappear. Here are a few ways that, here at Star Surf Camps, we ensure our surf camps are doing their bit for the planet and also some suggestions of what you could do to ensure the survival of our species.

All our camps offer a veggie and vegan menu. One of the major threats to our planet’s species is unsustainable agriculture, therefore we always ensure we have non meat and dairy options available.

Reusable water bottles and coffee cups. None of our camps provide bottled water or take away coffee cups as we encourage all our surf holiday guests to bring their own reusable ones to cut down on our plastic waste. If you don’t already have one do not fear we sell our own Star Surf Camps bottles and cups in our surf camps.

Beach cleans. Obviously one of the most important parts of our surf camps is the ocean. Arguable our favourite place to be, we want to ensure our oceans are around for millions more years to come and so each year we encourage all our guests to get involved in daily beach cleans to protect not only the ocean but all the species that call it home.

Here are just a few ways you can make changes this Earth Day.

1 | Reusable everything!! Ok so maybe not everything but definitely water bottles, coffee cups, shopping bags, cutlery.

2 | Join your local park, beach or river clean up.

3 | Recycle, recycle, recycle

4 | Reduce meat and dairy consumption, why not try ‘Meatless Mondays’ or swapping your usual coffee fix for oatmilk.

Whatever you do this Earth Day will make a difference and we want to encourage as many of you as possible to get involved, so whatever you get up to this year’s Earth Day, make sure to tag us in your pictures!
