Over recent years, the need and want to be live more sustainably has certainly been on most people’s minds. Each year, we try to make a conscious effort to ensure our surf camps are as sustainable and environmentally-friendly as possible. 2019 will not be an exception!
Here at Star Surf Camps, we ensure our efforts to protect the environment are both in and out of the water and across the whole of the business. Below are just a few ways we help the environment in our summer surf camps. And, a few ways you can join in, too!
USE OF NATURAL MATERIALS
Here at Star Surf Camps, one of our ways to be more environmentally friendly is by ‘upcycling’ the wonderful natural materials we have access to. Our Moliets Surf Camps and Moliets Surf & Yoga Camp are situated in traditional French pine forests and we have an abundance of pine to our disposal. All our chill out and dining areas are created from solid pine wood and are treated to ensure it’s lifespan is as long as possible. We’re also a massive fan of bamboo in all our surf camps, not only because it is the most environmentally-friendly and sustainable wood, but because it also gives our surf camps the charm and coziness everyone knows and loves.
LITTLE TO NO PLASTIC USE
Reducing plastic is a hot topic right now and an issue that everyone can play their part in reducing. One of the main ways we try to reduce our plastic usage is by encouraging all our guests to bring their own cutlery, this is not only drastically reduces our own waste it also helps encourage people to think about their own daily plastic usage. Star also has some great sustainable souvenirs such as reusable cups and water bottles to buy at the camp to ensure to help our guests keep on reducing their plastic use even when they leave the camp.
BEACH CLEANS
Probably our favourite part of all our camps… the beach! We love and are very proud of each beach that we teach on in our camps and nothing means more to us than ensuring they are a safe and clean environment for all our customers. To combat any rubbish that is brought onto the beach we organise regular beach cleans and encourage everyone to get involved! Not only is this a great way to educate people on the importance of keeping our beaches clean but it also a great way of uniting the ever-growing Star Surf Camps family.
Beach cleans don’t just have to be a one-off thing! Why not nip down to your local and do a 2-minute beach clean you will be surprised what a difference this can make. Also, make sure to tag us in any beach cleans you do, we love seeing the difference you all make!
SAVING ENERGY
There are simple but amazingly beneficial ways to save energy around the surf camp. Our tents are beautifully bright so we can take advantage of the natural Moliets sun throughout the long summer days. When the sun finally sets, our eco-friendly fairy lights light up the surf camp. When the time comes to hit up the bars in town, or if your glamping tent is calling, main camp lights are turned off at 11pm. Located so close to the ocean and the town means that we can walk absolutely everywhere, reducing our environmental footprint by increasing our actual footprints!
INFORMING SURF HOLIDAY GUESTS
Wandering around our surf camp, you’ll notice quotes and reminders to respect the ocean and the environment. Additionally, we emphasize environmental sustainability actions at the beginning of every surf holiday week during our welcome talk, where you’ll meet the whole team and get excited about the awesome few days to come.
