Now you have booked your surfing holiday and are ready to make your way to the surf camp, here are some tips to make sure you are making the most of your surf holiday.
Sexy smiles
Meeting new people, especially in high volumes, can sometimes be daunting for a shy character. A surf camp setting is all about good vibes and smiley faces so making sure your pearly whites are shining through will make sure that you are an attractive prospect for a new friend and a beacon of light emanating good times. If someone has jumped your wave in your first surf lesson, then remember to smile because there will be another wave coming for you.
Tan tips
Cooking yourself on the beach in between surf lessons might seem like the quickest way to catch up with your instructor’s golden sun-kissed skin but believe me, a gentle approach on the tanning front is definitely the way to go. Too many keen sun worshipers end up red raw on the first day and become the Surf Camp lobster, having to hide from the sun the rest of the week. Go heavy on the sun cream, slow and steady wins the race.
Water, wine, water
A surf camp can sometimes be a party goers haven. With alcohol flowing freely, hydrating can often be left by the wayside. Having your surf holiday ruined by dehydration or a severe hang over is not the one. Making sure your drinking enough is key to staying healthy and a glass of water in between each tipple will keep you on top form subdue the effects of the morning after.
Wet Wipes
This wonderful invention will be your saving grace. Surf camps in peak season can often mean queues for the toilets and showers and a front line of ladies blocking the mirror and cleaning your face in the morning can suddenly become a lengthy task. Spillages in the tent, cleaning off the day’s sun cream or wiping off the mascara the has inched its way down your face (yes boys, we know you are the culprits here ;) ) after your surf lesson are to name just a few of the handy scenarios they can be used. Bring a pack of these gems and your surfing holiday will be enhanced in a subtle but crucial way. Being an environmentally friendly surf camp, we recommend Earth friendly, a brand that makes 100% biodegradable wet wipes ensuring the only footprints you are leaving on your surf holiday are in the sand.
Embrace life
A surf camp holiday is a holiday like no other. We have seen many bashful and timid folk turn up at the beginning of the week and by the end of their surfing holiday they are throwing caution to the wind and have blossomed into intrepid explorers ready to quit the job they hate and set sail for a new country and embrace the next adventure. Many new characters, thought processes and experiences will filter through your surf camp venture and our advice is to embrace these whole-heartedly and see where it all takes you! Maybe one day you might be coming back to a Star Surf Camp as a member of the Surf camp team! ;)
