Some say, the Pine forest in Moliets holds the key to happiness. This certainly holds true for Rob & Solene who met in the French pine forests of our Moliets surf camp and now work together to regenerate another forest in Greece. Here’s a short interview with the two of them!
Rob, you first jumped on a surfboard during the 2013/14 surfing holiday season in Fuerteventura when you were working as the chef in our Star Surf Camps’ Canarian villa. How did that feel?
“I was stoked to be swapping the long cold Welsh winter for the idea of a never ending summer, I started my first surf camp season and it wasn’t one to forget. Hanging out with the dream team Sami, Joe and Pablo and the wider Star Surf Camps family ensured a never ending blast! My time in the Fuerteventura surf camp was spent mostly expanding my culinary skills, surfing along the coastline with my closest mates Robbie & Max and, of course, occasional pool side siestas with our fantastic surf holiday guests.
As the smaller summer waves rolled in Fuerteventura, I jumped at the idea for a visit to Star Surf Camps’ surf camps in the Southwest of France for the prospect of offshore beach break heaven (and forest parties). I put down my knives in Lajares, Fuerteventura and picked up some carpentry tools in the surf camp in Moliets, France. Four surf camp seasons and too many crazy memories to share, here I am now on a new adventure with Solene, who I met through Star Surf Camps!”
“Remembering a late night at the library where I should have been preparing for a up-coming exam,” Solene says, “a friend messaged me the ‘We Are Recruiting’ page of Star Surf Camps. Dreaming about an epic surf camp summer down the ‘dust and pine cone tracks, I applied. After I got the Go Ahead for an epic surfing summer at Star Surf Camps and my exams were finished, I pushed my skateboarding skills just that tiny bit too far in the concrete waves of Bristol’s pump track and landed in plaster days before flying out to France and the surf camp in Moliets. Luckily on arrival, a French doctor confirmed that nothing was broken, so my first surf camp season began!
Throughout my surf camp summer in Moliets, there were endless highlights, such as working with all the great staff and integrating with so many surfing holiday makers who passed through the surf camp. The weekly opportunity of eating ‘Moules frites’ or laughing and drinking Sangria on the hill in San Sébastian, combined with Tapas afterwards was never to be missed. A jam-packed surfing holiday season of funky dancing from the beach to the bar, or in town in front of a live band. …And meeting Rob!”
