How to… Recycle your board wax

Easy to follow instructions to save you money and help lower your surf wax usage!

Here at Star Surf Camps, we like to recycle and reuse materials wherever we can, not only with our recycling waste and using reclaimed materials to build our surf camps but also on our boards!

The team at our surf camp in Fuerteventura, Spain, have put together our latest ‘HOW TO…’ guide for reusing the wax on your surfboard, so that in those moments when you just can’t find one of the thousands of half-used wax sticks lying around, or the new stash you brought along for your surfing holiday, you can be ready to get in the water at any moment!  Plus, not a bad tip if you are a little strapped for cash!

What you will need:

·      1 Wax Comb

·      1 Empty Container (preferably metal)

·      1 Clip

·      1/2 Tablespoon Coconut Oil

·      3 Drops of Colouring (optional)

·      1 Mould

HOW TO…

1. Clean all the wax of your board with the wax comb and put all the removed wax in an empty tin.  To correctly remove the wax from the board, it must be soft. You can either let the heat of the sun melt the wax or you can use a hair dryer.

2. Boil the water on the stove over a low heat and put the tin into the water so that the wax becomes liquid.

3. Once it is ready add 1/2 tablespoon of coconut oil and stir well.

4. Add a few drops of white dye or any colour you like. NB This step is NOT mandatory, it will just give your new wax a fresher and funkier look.

5. Once mixed, remove the tin from the stove and pour the liquid wax into a shaped/round mould (the crazier shaped, the crazier your wax will be), wait for it to set and remove the mould.

Et Voila!!  Your newly waxed board awaits!
