My name is Michal. Wherever I travel, my bag always holds a surfboard, a guitar and a notepad. I am a people person who loves to communicate and meet with friends. If I would be an animal, it would definitely be a grizzly bear. I love good drums with a screeching guitar and if I started a cover band, it would be of my favourite band The Black Keys. I come from the heart of Europe which is 4800 km away, a beautiful town called Bratislava.
For the last 4 years of my studies I tried to find a seasonal work close to the ocean to fulfil my dream of surfing every day. When I graduated I packed my bag and searched online for an opportunity to make my dreams a reality. I was lucky to know about Star Surf Camps on Fuerteventura through a friend who had spent his surfing holidays here. He had a great time and highly recommended getting in touch. So, I sent a message, got the call, bought a ticket, flew over and have enjoyed every moment since being here – in and out of the water.
I studied communication and media and help manage Star Surf Camps’ Facebook page for our Fuerteventura surf school, blog a little here and there and do a little bit of marketing. I organise, talk and smile a lot and help in the surf school where I can. I love to be creative in my job, so any hard task or a difficult problem that comes my way doesn’t stay unsolved for long. My main goal is to help around with whatever I can and keep all our surf holiday guests happy.
I started surfing about 6 years ago in a beautiful surf camp in the southwest of France. Since then, surfing has held a special place in my heart and I’ve been through every possibility excuse to justify being close to the ocean and waves. My time here eels a bit like a permanent surfing holiday!! :D Surfing changed my life and, thanks to it, I am a better person. I’m still at the beginning and learn something new about surfing every day, but I’ve already experienced some major wipeouts, little barrels and have made awesome memories I’ll keep for the rest of my life. Can’t wait for more of them!
When I came to Fuerteventura for the first time, I was a different person. Much younger, but determined to get better at surfing and enjoy every wave. After my first month here, I realised that my surf experience and time here is about much more than just catching waves. I’m watching shooting stars at night on the beach around a campfire with a cold beer and the surf camp crew that has become my surfing family. I’ve realized that if you really want something, it’s sometimes not that unattainable and difficult to achieve as you might think at first. I’ve learned that whatever you want, you can get it … and more! And who would have thought that I find my very own paradise on a little surfing island. You should come check it out, it’s A-MAZ-ING!!!
