Fuerteventura

Uni Group Surfing Trip

EPIC. EPIC. EPIC.

After a long surf camp summer in beautiful France, it always feels a bit like a treat to me to come back to England, to see family and friends and to surf my local surf spots. I absolutely love surfing in England. It’s my favourite place to surf, hands down! But, let’s face it, with little sunlight, pretty much no sunshine at all and more rain than you’d want to see in a whole year, the English winter can be a bit of a pain. So after being back from Moliets for a few months, I was ready for a break.

In case I haven’t said it often enough, working for a surf holiday company is AMAZING, and you can guess my excitement when I was asked to go to sunny Fuerteventura to help out with one of our Uni surf trips! In our surf camp, we were hosting over 80 University students from all over the UK on their week-long group surf trip. It was an absolute pleasure to take them around the sun-kissed island, showing them Fuerteventura’s best surf spots in El Cotillo and along the North Track, the island’s best beaches to relax on, best restaurants to eat at and, of course, best bars to party in!

Highlight of this surf holiday week? Pheew, where to begin! We were blessed with amazing weather all week long and it felt epic to be back in my boardies again. On top of that, the surf conditions were fantastic! The quality of waves was perfect for both surf beginners at our local beach break as well as great for the aspiring pros among the Uni groups surfing the reef breaks. Apart from weather and waves, Mother Nature had more in store for our surf holiday makers: the most incredible meteor showers which we watched from the beach right outside our surf house! I’d never seen anything like it, just breath-taking.

Another highlight during this surfing week away was definitely seeing the quick progression of most of our Uni students on a surfboard. In particular, I remember one massive smile on the face of one of our surf beginners after he pulled off a perfect drop-in he had learned this week. With his first green wave under his belt, I could just tell he’d be completely stoked for the rest of his surf holiday week!

Our last surf camp day is definitely on the highlight’s list of this Uni group’s surf trip. After an early morning’s surf, we took on climbing a real volcano! I’m always surprised about how much surfing on a surf holiday improves your fitness. Even a week-long surf trip makes all the difference and all other exercise a little easier! So, you can imagine, we weren’t only walking up, we were sprinting it up – at least me and the “Welsh legend”. To round off an epic surfing holiday, we spent the afternoon snorkelling, SUP boarding and lagoon jumping into the crystal-clear waters just outside our surf house!

But, all good things must come to an end. Unfortunately, this also holds true for an epic surf holiday week with our Uni surf students. I’m leaving Fuerteventura with some great memories of amazing waves and with epic new friends and experiences!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us in our surf camp on Fuerteventura last week – we had an amazing time and can’t wait for another surf trip with you guys next year!
