Today, we’re taking a look at our Activity Surf Camp near Santander. 

THE LOCATION

Situated in the beautiful Oyambre Natural Park

Our Activity Surf Camp lies in the beautiful nature reserve of Oyambre, widely known for Oyambre Beach, which is the surfing beach in walking distance from our surf camp. The reserve encompasses a total of 5,758 hectares of coastal terrain between the towns of San Vicente de la Barquera and Comillas on the west coast of Cantabria. Besides its long stretch of coastline, the area is known for beautiful estuaries and long chains of small cliffs, between 10 and 50 meters high.

Oyambre Natural Park & the Surrounding Area

Oyambre Natural Park itself is dominated by leafy forests with several hiking paths, which make our surf camp location perfect for everyone looking for an active family holiday. With plenty of lovely places to discover on foot, there is even more to see and do a little further afield. We highly recommend borrowing one of our surf camp bikes explore, for example, the towns of Comillas or San Vicente which are both less than 5 km from the surf camp. Comillas, in particular, is worth a day trip with pretty little cobbled streets, quaint houses, traditional shops and a villa, “El Capriccio”, designed by the famous Spanish Catalan architect, Antoni Gaudí. 

THE SURF CAMP

Camp comfortably with the whole Family

We welcome family of all shapes and sizes to our surf camp in Oyambre. Children under the age of 24 months stay free. Our surf camp in Oyambre is made up of spacious 8-man bell tents in which we accommodate no more than three surf guests at a time. Larger families are also welcome to multiple tents next to each other. For families looking for more comfort can choose our deluxe tents which come with raised wooden beds, lighting and electricity. When in the surf camp, there are plenty of fun activities to do for all the family. During the day, you can take a dip in the swimming pool, play volleyball, rounders or ping pong. In the evening, we come together to play games, watch a surf movie in our outdoor cinema or have a glass of wine (parents only, of course) and talk surfing stories. We have dedicated surf camp staff who have experience working with kids, are DBS checked and who run a kids club onsite.

THE SURF 

Learn to surf & go on SUP safaris

In our surf camp, we offer family surf lessons for the whole family or kids-only surf lesson. To join the surf lessons, children must be 8 years or older and be able to swim. If your children are younger, you are welcome to borrow surfboards and take them into the water. Per surf holiday week, you receive 12 hours of surf coaching. This includes lots of time surfing the gentle waves of Playa de Oyambre, the beach just outside the surf camp, as well as a theory surf session in the camp, teaching you about water safety, rip currents and the intricacies of Spanish beach breaks. The maximum group size is eight surfers per one to two instructors. All surf equipment, surfboards, leashes and wetsuits, is free to use within the lesson and free upon availability outside of them. All our surf instructors are experienced, fully licensed and qualified, and also have a lifeguard qualification. On a day that the sea is calm and clear, we take out the SUP boards for a day of exploring the beautiful coastline of the Bay of Biscay.

We are very proud to have families joining us every year in the surf camp. It’s a great place to meet people and make new friends. Below are two such families who first met in our Oyambre surf camp and met up again over Christmas for a festive get-together.
