Don’t be the ‘kook’ on your surfing holiday!

A ‘Kook’ (or wannabe surfer) is the bane of every local surfer’s life… So when you are on your surfing holiday and out on the water don’t p*** off the locals!  A kook can be known as a bit of a strange, eccentric, or crazy person, but us surfers know them more affectionately as a surfer who claims they can surf better than most people, wear all the top surf branded clothing and have high end equipment.

On your surfing holiday you might be sharing the waves with a few other people from outside of your surfing lessons, so make sure that you are respectful and safe.

Don’t drop in on other surfers…

Learn the rules of the water road ready for your next surfing holiday…. (stay tuned for our upcoming blogs!)  Surfers get protective over their waves so make sure you understand who has the right of way and don’t drop in on people.

Be Excited but don’t brag!

Chatting about your day on the water on a surfing holiday is pretty standard, sharing the stoke and getting pumped for the next day.  Make sure you aren’t the one who is talking about how they always had the best wave, the best pop up, how great you did!  Bragging makes no friends and becomes pretty tiresome!  Encourage your new-found friends and keep riding the stoke!

All the gear and NO idea!

Don’t be one of those peeps on your surfing holiday who turns up with all the gear and no idea, looking the part and thinking they know everything to do with surfing, if the other people in camp won’t put you in your place, then the waves certainly will!

Surfing holidays are all about relaxing, having fun and enjoying the ride, so why not come and check out our Moliets camp which is now OPEN!!
