Too often, we take our environment, nature, our oceans and beaches, and pretty much all our surroundings for granted. For many surfers, the ocean in particular is a second home; a happy place we can turn to whenever we need it. And for most of our surf camp guests, France’s sun-kissed beaches and beautiful pine forests make for the perfect surfing holiday and sunny getaway!

At the end of each surf camp week, we want all our surf holiday guests to leave our surf camps happy, with a smile, new friends and memories for life, but not to leave anything behind but their footprints in the sand.

In our surf camps in France and Spain, we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible and, for years, have supported beach cleans together with our surf holiday makers. This year, we have introduced waste-free camps and new recycling systems to ensure we can do our best for a greener environment.

For most surfers, keeping the ocean environment clean is a priority

Here are some things YOU can do to try and become a greener surfer and make a difference:

— Leave nothing except your footprints

— Take nothing except great memories

— Use more ethical products. Despite many surfboards, wetsuits and other surfing equipment being made of non-recyclable materials and toxic chemicals the surfing industry is slowly beginning to become more environmentally friendly. Keep an eye out for surf businesses that offer organic or clean surf wax, sustainably produced wetsuits or surfboards made using sustainable timber.

—Use responsible companies who care about their impact on the environment!

— Become an activist. Support surfing and ocean charities that promote the environment such as The Surfrider Foundation or Surfers Against Sewage SAS, who we work closely with.

So, for your next surfing holidays remember to take nothing but epic memories & to leave nothing but your footprints in the sand. Waste not, want not! It’s time we start appreciating more, wasting less and giving something back! It’s so easy!
