This week we introduce you to Alice, our onsite chef in Carcans for this season. She looks after our guests and makes sure we never run out of food. It’s her second season with Star Surf Camps Carcans already.
“Hi, my name is Alice and I am the cook for Star Surf Carcans. In the busier weeks I cook for around 70-80 people, all from the kitchen tent where I have two hobs (and a barbecue outside). It can be stressful from time to time but I really enjoy creating food and nourishment for all those hungry surfers.
The most difficult and time consuming part of my job as a chef is definitely the food shopping. Not only sticking to the budget but having to navigate 3 or 4 trolleys full of food through a busy supermarket and into the car provides both a physical and a mental challenge. To plan the weekly food menu ahead with the amount of people in the camp is quite challenging, so you better make sure to not forget on shopping the essentials.
The menu consists of barbecued burgers, sausages and pork ribs as well as vegetarian pasta dishes and lentil stews. The meat we use is from a butcher in the alps and is non processed, in fact it is of very high quality and it has been noticed by everyone, much to my pleasure. I do my best to cook healthy dishes with a variation of meals and some delicious desserts.
I love this job – Living next to the beach and having the opportunity to surf in between work is definitely a perk! Come and visit us and see the Carcans Camp for yourselves and try my food!”
