Amazing New Surf Movie

“From This City” - Directed by Robin Kother

Not all surfers among us are as fortunate as to live right by the sea. In fact, only a very small percentage of the surfing community does. For surfers living the city life away from the ocean this often means missing swells and surf sessions due to long drives to surf spots, only to later see friends score epic waves on all sorts of social media channels. In his latest work, “From This City”, director and filmmaker, Robin Kother, has now captured this feeling of escaping the city to a place of comfort and solace, the ocean. He says, “My job allows me to lose myself in my imagination, and this is what inspired the film. … Even if only for a few minutes, even if only in your imagination. Every surfer has mind surfed from a beach, and this is mind surfing from the city.”

Mirroring the film’s sentiment, Robin and his crew evoke a rather dark and isolating though personal feeling. Vital for this are their chosen locations: city filming began at the end of last year in Bristol underneath the M32 carriageway, and they got their surf footage from surf spots around South Wales and the Porthcawl area. To capture such dream-like sequences, most shootings took place during dark and wintery days of which the South West, luckily, has plenty.

This is a surf movie unlike anything we’ve seen in a while! We absolutely love what these guys have done and hope to see more of them in the future. If you’d like to find out more about Robin and his upcoming projects, check out his website here!
