Moliets is more than just a place – it’s an experience, a small corner of paradise tucked into the southwest of France. I’ve been lucky enough to spend several summers here, soaking in the waves, the sunsets, the quiet mornings, and the vibrant evenings, and I want to share some of my favorite things to do with you. Whether you’re a surfer, a nature lover, or someone who just wants to escape and make memories, Moliets has a little bit of everything.
Let’s dive in…
1 | Surfing in Moliets: The Dreamy Beach Break
If there’s one thing Moliets is known for, it’s the surf. Moliets-Plage is a stunning beach break, perfect for both beginners and more experienced surfers. The waves here aren’t as crowded as some of the famous spots down south around Hossegor, but trust me, the surf is just as good, if not better. From July through October, the swells come in strong, and when everything lines up – the offshore winds, the westerly swell – Moliets-Plage can barrel beautifully. It’s one of those moments when you feel totally in tune with the ocean.
I’d recommend booking a surf lesson if you’re just getting started – the surf instructors here are incredible. They’re passionate, patient, and so dedicated to helping you progress. For those who already know their way around the surf, we offer equipment hire, so you can hit the waves at your own pace, whenever it feels right.
2 | Yoga in Moliets: Restore and Refresh
After a solid day of surfing, there’s nothing better than unwinding with a yoga session. At our surf & yoga camp, we run two sessions a day, with our beautiful yoga platform nestled right in the pine forests. There’s something about practicing in nature that just feels… right. And for something truly special, we head to the beach for our sunset yoga sessions – it’s an experience I’ll never forget.
We also have yoga mats and gear available for anyone who wants to practice in their own time. Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or a beginner, these sessions are a great way to stretch out those muscles and clear your mind.
3 | More Ways to Stay Active: Surfing’s Just the Start
If you’re the type who likes to stay active all day, you’ll love Moliets. Beyond the surf and yoga, there’s a skate ramp, a basketball court, volleyball, tennis – even a gym on-site. The surf camp vibe is all about fun, and you’ll often find a friendly game of beach volleyball or a spontaneous skate session happening. I’ll admit, I’ve spent a few evenings getting competitive on the courts or rolling around on the ramp with new friends.
There’s no shortage of ways to keep moving, and that’s one of the things I love most about Moliets – it’s a place where people are always up for something fun.
4 | Exploring Moliets: The Beach, the Town, the Nightlife
One of the things I look forward to the most in Moliets is the beach. It’s only a short walk from our camp, and it stretches on for miles. I can’t count the number of evenings I’ve spent watching the sunset with a bottle of wine in hand, feeling the golden light dip into the ocean. It’s a peaceful moment that never gets old.
The town of Moliets-Plage is charming, with a lovely strip of shops, surf boutiques, and cozy cafés. The streets really come alive in the evening, especially when the surf crowd gathers. Our camp crew has a few favorite places to grab dinner – we’re always on the lookout for the best local spots, and we’re happy to share those with you.
Nightlife here is relaxed but lively. We often start the evening with drinks at the tiki bar in the camp before heading into town. There are a couple of bars in Moliets where you can mingle with other surfers and locals. Zoo Bar is always a good choice for a fun, laid-back vibe, while L’Open is perfect if you’re in the mood to dance.
5 | Exploring Beyond Moliets: Nature, Culture, and Adventure
Moliets is a great base to explore the surrounding area, whether you’re on foot, bike, or just looking for a day trip. One of my personal favorites is the Courant d’Huchet, a beautiful nature reserve just a short walk from the camp. It’s the perfect place to go for a peaceful stroll or just sit and listen to the birds. Nature here feels wild and untouched, and it’s easy to lose track of time while walking through the dunes and marshes.
If you’re up for a bit more adventure, the nearby village of Léon has paddle boarding and canoeing, or if you’re in the mood for shopping, head to Hossegor – the surfing mecca of France. Here, you’ll find all the major surf brands, and you can snag some great deals at the outlet stores. Just a heads-up – if you’re not careful, you might end up spending all your cash on new gear!
If you’re feeling really adventurous, there’s also the Adrenaline Parc, which has a high ropes course and paintballing. Or for a more laid-back day, enjoy a round of golf at the 18-hole course in Moliets.
We also offer bike rentals, so if you want to explore more of the area on two wheels, just ask us. We’ve teamed up with a local shop to offer discounts to our guests – it’s definitely worth it!
I hope these tips give you a taste of what Moliets is all about. It’s a place full of adventure, relaxation and unforgettable memories. I can’t wait for you to experience it for yourself. So, whether you’re here to surf, unwind or just explore, I know you’ll leave with stories of your own.
Looking forward to welcoming you to Moliets!
Until then, take care,
Liz & the Star Surf Camps Crew
