Get help with choosing the right surf camp accommodation for you

With summer around the corner and most of us itching to book a surf trip to somewhere sunny, it’s time to start planning this year’s surf adventure. One of the biggest questions we get is: What’s the surf camp accommodation like, and what are the options?

Knowing what you’re booking at the time of booking is really important to avoid disappointment when starting your surf camp holidays. And with so many different surf camp accommodation options out there, picking the right place can be key to a great trip.

Our surf camp accommodation guide covers:

👉 What to expect when booking your surf camp holiday.

👉 The different types of surf camp accommodation available.

👉 Which type may suit you best.

Let’s dive into the top five options!

Standard Bell Tents

Most surf camps stick with the tried-and-true bell tent as their standard accommodation—and it’s clear why. These tents are spacious (often fitting up to eight people) and bring a sense of charm you won’t find in a regular camping tent.

A good bell tent includes a center pole, mesh windows for ventilation, and plenty of headroom—enough for a surfboard or some morning yoga stretches. While they can technically hold eight, here at Star Surf Camps, it’s never more than 3 people max who share a tent for comfort, especially with luggage involved.

For a better night’s sleep, consider upgrading to a tent with a mattress and bedding. Trust me, a memory foam mattress can make all the difference after a day in the sun and surf. That’s why we now provide these as standard, with bedding available if you don’t want to pack your own.

That said, bell tents are still camping, not glamping. Electricity and extra comforts are rare, so charging phones can be a hassle. Despite this, bell tents are perfect for solo travelers, those eager to make new friends, and anyone wanting a lively campsite vibe on a budget.

Pros:

👉 Ideal for solo travelers

👉 Great price for quality accommodation

👉  Located in the social heart of the camp

Cons:

👎 No electricity or lighting

👎 Lacks extra comforts like mats or furniture

👎 Not ideal for couples seeking luxury

Deluxe Bell Tents

The deluxe bell tents are the next step up at most campsites, offering some key upgrades while maintaining the charm of the classic bell tent. Though they look similar from the outside, it’s the interior features that truly set them apart.

The biggest perk? Electricity. With internal lighting and power outlets, you can keep your devices fully charged—a lifesaver for longer stays. You’ll also enjoy extra comforts like rugs, storage, wooden bed frames, and decorations, with some camps even delivering a full glamping vibe.

Deluxe tents are often located in quieter, more serene areas within or near the main campsite. At Star Surf Camps, you can choose between deluxe tents in the main camp or a dedicated deluxe campsite, which aslo include added perks like upgraded meals or extra lessons.

Pros:

👉 Perfect for couples

👉 Includes electricity, lighting, and extra comforts

👉 Quieter location for a more relaxed atmosphere

Cons:

👎 Higher rates than the standard bell tent

👎 Not as luxurious as some of the new options

Tipi Tents

Deluxe tipi tents elevate the surf camp experience, blending all the perks of deluxe bell tents with premium additions like outside decks, wooden floors, higher ceilings, and raised bases to keep you off the ground. These luxurious accommodations are ideal for couples, comfort-focused adventurers, or anyone seeking a restful, stylish break.

When we couldn’t find a tipi design suited for surf camping, we created our own! Launching in 2024, these custom-designed tipis will debut at our deluxe camps in France and Oyambre.

Pros:

👉 Ultimate comfort and style

👉 Prime campsite locations

👉 Deck storage for surfboards

Cons:

👎 Not budget-friendly

Mobile Homes

The king of surf camp accommodation! Mobile homes offer unparalleled privacy and comfort, making them ideal for small groups of 3–8 travelers. With features like private bathrooms, fully equipped kitchens, and shaded decks, they’re perfect for families, groups of friends, or digital nomads who need to mix work and play.

At our Moliets Surf & Yoga Camp, we’re introducing two mobile homes this summer, each accommodating up to 5 guests. These homes include bedrooms, a sofa bed, a kitchenette, and a private terrace—ideal for relaxing after a day of surf and sun.

Pros:

👉 Perfect for digital nomads

👉 Ultimate privacy and comfort

👉Self-catering convenience

Cons:

👎  Requires a group to book

👎 Higher price point

The Classic Tent

While bell tents dominate most surf camps, classic tents remain an option at some. Typically located in smaller, quieter areas of the campsite, they’re a no-frills choice designed for budget-conscious travelers.

At Star Surf, our Back2Basic tents feature two compartments (sleeping and living), mesh windows for ventilation, and mosquito nets. These tents sleep up to three guests comfortably but don’t include bedding or electricity, so bringing your own sleep mat and bedding is essential.

Pros:

👉 Affordable pricing

👉 Classic camping experience

Cons:

👎 No electricity or lighting

👎 Requires your own sleeping gear

👎 Often located in busier areas
