¡Bienvenido a Fuerteventura!

Often called Europe’s Hawaii, Fuerteventura is defined by volcanic landscapes, warm turquoise waters, endless sandy beaches, and consistent surf all year round. Life here moves at a slower, more relaxed pace, shaped by nature, the ocean, and a close-knit local surf community.

Our Surf Villa is located in a small surfer village in the south of the island. From here, our experienced surf coaches guide guests of all levels — from complete beginners to advanced surfers — always choosing the best spots to match both the conditions and each surfer’s ability. Surfing with us is about more than just technique; it’s about connecting with the rhythm of the island and the ocean.

Most days are spent outdoors. Mornings often begin with yoga by the sea, afternoons are spent on the beach, in the dunes, or in the water, and evenings are for simple meals, fresh fish, and watching the sun set over the Atlantic.

Fuerteventura is easy to reach from many European cities, with direct flights offered by several airlines, including low-cost carriers. It’s a laid-back destination for solo travellers, couples, groups of friends, and anyone drawn to the feeling of endless summer. We look forward to welcoming you.

Surf Holidays in La Pared

Our Surf Villa is located on the west coast in the small surfer village of La Pared. Situated at Fuerteventura’s narrowest point, the lively east coast — with its restaurants, shops and bars — is only five kilometres away, while the west coast remains quiet, open and shaped by the Atlantic.

The Surf Villa sits on a 1,000 m² property just a short walk from the beach. The grounds feature a large swimming pool, a sauna, several outdoor kitchens, a fireplace and a pizza oven. Energy is produced CO₂-neutrally through the villa’s own photovoltaic system. Yoga sessions take place on the private yoga deck with sea views or directly on the beach.

La Pared is a place where nature feels close and ever-present. Trade winds, strong sunlight, tides and constant surf have shaped a raw and distinctive landscape. On clear days, the horizon fades into the deep blue of the Atlantic and the sky. While sunsets and star-filled nights are part of everyday life here, it is the waves that draw surfers to this stretch of coastline.

At the well-known surf beach El Viejo Rey, gentle whitewater waves roll in at low tide, making it ideal for beginners. At higher tide, several peaks appear that are better suited to more experienced surfers. The surf school is officially recognised by the municipality and meets all EU licensing requirements. All instructors are certified surf coaches and trained beach lifeguards. Surf equipment, including boards and wetsuits, is provided by the Australian brands Billabong and Ocean & Earth. When conditions in La Pared are not ideal, the surf school operates flexibly and can move to beaches on the south or east coast.

Nearby, the cove known as La Bahía offers a point break that works well with larger swells. There is also a beach club in the cove where live music and sunsets often mark the end of the day. In the village itself, you’ll find a small supermarket, a restaurant and a cosy café, perfect for breakfast or a light meal.

A Typical Day at the Surf Villa

Surfing, unwinding, meeting like-minded people, falling asleep to the sound of the sea and waking beneath a sky full of stars.

A day at our Surf Villa in La Pared begins slowly and effortlessly. Breakfast is enjoyed on the terrace or by the pool, accompanied by the distant sound of the ocean rolling in from the nearby beach.

Around 9:00 a.m., our surf instructors pick you up and the day’s adventure begins. Based on wind, swell and tides, they choose the best beach for the conditions and adapt the lesson to your ability. Often this means surfing the wide, wild beach of La Pared, though other spots along the east and south coast are also within an easy 10–25 minute drive.

After a short theory briefing and a warm-up stretch on the sand, it’s time to get in the water. Expect up to three hours filled with waves, progression and plenty of smiles. Once the lesson wraps up, you can stay at the beach to relax or free surf on smaller days, or head back to the Villa for a light lunch and some downtime by the pool.

The afternoon is yours to shape. Head out for a second surf session, cruise around on a surf skateboard or explore Fuerteventura’s raw coastal scenery on a hike or mountain bike ride. The landscape here feels almost untouched—dramatic cliffs carved by wind and waves, with hidden coves known mostly to locals.

Later, as the day softens, you can join a yoga session on the deck, stretching out tired muscles while the sun slowly sinks into the sea, have a splash about in the swimming pool or a dip in the jacuzzi, or a relax in our sauna.

As evening arrives, the choice is again yours. Sip a sundowner at the beach club tucked into the cove of La Bahía, where music and ocean views set the mood, or catch a final sunset surf as the waves glow in golden light.

The night often ends back at the Villa—sharing stories by the pool, on the terrace or by the fireplace beneath La Pared’s extraordinary star-filled sky. Or, if you’re feeling lively, Costa Calma is just five kilometres away, offering a selection of bars and restaurants to round off the day.

A rhythm that feels natural, unhurried and completely connected to the ocean.

Accommodation in the Surf Villa

he Surf Villa is discreetly positioned and offers breathtaking ocean views. In summer, you can even enjoy unobstructed sunsets sinking straight into the sea. Built in the 1980s by architect Fritz Junkermann, who played a key role in shaping La Pared, the villa combines distinctive architecture with a strong connection to its natural surroundings.

Set on a 1,000 m² plot and arranged over two levels, the property features several unique accommodation units, each designed with privacy, comfort and outdoor living in mind.

On the upper level, the garden apartment Tierra has its own private entrance, a bedroom overlooking the sea and a small terrace above the pool. An outdoor kitchen is seamlessly integrated into the lush Canarian garden, creating a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

At the heart of the villa lies the expansive, semi-circular main apartment Aire. Panoramic windows and carefully placed openings capture the changing light throughout the day, offering spectacular sea views from almost every apartment. A sheltered terrace with a fireplace and ocean views adds to the warm and inviting atmosphere.

A natural stone staircase leads down to the generous, kidney-shaped swimming pool. Here you’ll find the round studio Auga, with direct pool access and the sauna nearby. On the opposite side of the pool sits the red bungalow Fuego, complete with its own outdoor kitchen, wood-fired pizza oven and beautiful sea views. Right next to it is the yoga deck.

Each accommodation unit — the garden apartment, the main apartment, the round studio and the bungalow — comes with its own kitchen, private bathroom and individual outdoor space designed for rest and relaxation.

Main Apartment Aire · 4 people

Surf Lessons in La Pared

Surf lessons take place on the unspoiled natural beach of La Pared and are offered for all skill levels. Whether you are a complete beginner who has never stood on a surfboard, an intermediate surfer with some experience, or an advanced surfer looking to fine-tune your technique and better understand Fuerteventura’s unique waves and currents, our experienced instructors adapt the lessons to your needs.

Beginners and intermediate surfers are generally taught in separate small groups, allowing for individual feedback and steady progression throughout the week.

Courses run daily from Monday to Saturday. Depending on tide conditions and the ability level of the group, lessons begin between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Each session starts directly on the beach with an introduction to the local currents and essential safety rules. This is followed by a short theory session outlining the learning goals, along with practical exercises on land. Instruction is broken down into clear, easy-to-follow steps.

After a short warm-up, it’s time to enter the water. Expect around three hours filled with waves, progression and plenty of fun. Instructors stay close by to select suitable waves, push you into the surf when needed and provide hands-on guidance to improve your technique. Advanced surfers also benefit from a weekly video coaching session.

The full beach course lasts approximately 3.5 hours. All surf equipment, including surfboard and wetsuit, is provided and remains available free of charge after the lesson, allowing you to stay on the beach and continue practising. On days when better conditions can be found elsewhere, the surf school travels to other beaches in the south of the island, usually within a 20-minute drive.

All instructors are licensed by the Spanish or international surfing federation (FES or ISA) and are trained beach lifeguards. Equipment is supplied by the Australian brands Billabong and Ocean & Earth. The surf school is officially recognised by the local municipality, fully compliant with EU regulations and covered by liability insurance.

Our Surf Spots

Fuerteventura enjoys warm temperatures year-round, meaning that even in winter a long 3/2 wetsuit is usually enough. On many days during the cooler months, surfing in shorties or even boardshorts is possible. The south of the island is also less frequented by surfers, which means fewer people in the water and several beaches where you can often surf almost alone.

With coastlines facing east, west and south, the island offers a wide variety of surf beaches. This allows our instructors to select the best spot each day based on the swell, wind conditions and the skill level of the group.

La Pared (West Coast)

One of Fuerteventura’s most famous beach breaks, located just a few minutes’ walk from the villa.

La Pared sits on the island’s west coast and is known for its raw and untouched landscape. Wide beaches, dramatic rock formations and powerful natural surroundings make it easy to disconnect from everyday life and reconnect with the elements of sun, wind and sea.

Wave conditions vary depending on tide and wind, ranging from gentle rolling waves to more powerful beach break sections. What makes La Pared special is not only the quality of the surf but also the constant sea breeze and the sound of the ocean, creating a calm and grounded atmosphere.

Sunsets here are particularly impressive. As the sun dips below the horizon, the coastline is bathed in warm colours, making evenings at La Pared unforgettable. Whether surfing or simply watching the sunset, the spot offers both tranquillity and inspiration.

La Bahia (West Coast)

A challenging point break almost on the villa’s doorstep.

La Bahia is a distinctive surf spot located in a small bay near La Pared. The bay features dark sand and a striking cliff formation leading into a natural rock tunnel, a place locals simply call Bahia.

The wave breaks consistently from right to left over a shallow, vegetated reef. Depending on the swell size, waves break either further out or closer to a prominent rock. Due to its proximity to the cliffs and strong currents, this spot is recommended only for experienced surfers.

Conditions depend heavily on swell, tide and wind, and Bahia often works best when La Pared becomes too large. On wind-protected summer days it can offer exceptional waves, although caution is always required, especially when currents increase with stronger swell.

The bay lies around 500 metres from the villa and the waves can often be seen directly from the terrace. Bahia is also home to a popular beach club known for sunset DJ sets and live music.

Garcey (West Coast)

A historic beach offering clean and sheltered beach break waves.

Playa de Garcey is one of Fuerteventura’s most atmospheric surf spots and home to the remains of the famous shipwreck, the American Star. Once a luxury cruise ship launched in New York in 1940, it ran aground here during a storm in 1994 and eventually broke apart. Today only fragments remain visible at low tide.

Reaching Garcey is an adventure in itself, requiring a drive along rugged gravel roads best suited to four-wheel-drive vehicles. The surrounding landscape offers rolling hills and wide views before opening onto the beach.

The surf here is a classic beach break with multiple peaks producing both left- and right-hand waves. Thanks to the mountains behind the beach, Garcey is well protected from wind and can even enjoy light offshore conditions when other west coast spots are blown out. A defined channel provides relatively easy access to the lineup, even on larger days.

Esquinzo (East Coast)

Left-hand point-style waves ideal for longboards and relaxed sessions.

Esquinzo lies on the east coast of southern Fuerteventura, where long sandy beaches meet rocky headlands and hidden coves. It is a favourite among surfers looking for calmer conditions and scenic surroundings.

Waves here typically break from right to left, forming long, gentle rides under the right wind conditions. When steady winds above 20 knots persist for more than a day, Esquinzo can deliver waves reminiscent of classic surf films.

Beginners can enjoy the cleaner sections away from the rocks, while more experienced surfers ride the steeper lines closer to the headland, especially at higher tide.

Access is easy via the highway exit at Butihondo. A natural parking area sits above the beach, with additional access along a gravel road closer to the waves.

Esquinzo is generally considered safe and family friendly. A mild current runs parallel to the shore, helping surfers maintain position without being pulled offshore. The combination of clean waves, wind protection and beautiful scenery makes this an excellent spot for relaxed surf days.

El Pozo (South Coast)

An insider spot for experienced surfers during spring and summer.

El Pozo is located near the Jandía lighthouse at the southern tip of the island, where wide white beaches meet expansive salt flats. Strong summer trade winds generate powerful wind swell, making this one of the best shortboard spots in the area.

Access is straightforward by driving toward Morro Jable and parking near the lighthouse. Waves here are mainly left-handers, with steep and hollow sections forming close to the lighthouse and softer, longer rides breaking further down the beach.

Best conditions occur with northeast winds and at low to mid tide. At high tide, waves tend to weaken. Less experienced surfers should remain cautious near the steeper sections to avoid being pulled into more powerful areas.

Cruz Roja (South Coast)

With the right conditions, one of the best waves on the island.

Cruz Roja is a well-known surf spot near the Jandía lighthouse, named after a former Red Cross lifeguard station. This wide sandy beach often delivers excellent waves, especially when west coast spots like La Pared become too large.

Under ideal conditions, the waves here can rival quality point breaks and attract experienced surfers from across the Canary Islands. Waves are predominantly right-handers, with steeper and more hollow sections near the lifeguard hut and longer, softer rides further down the beach.

Sandbanks shift throughout the year, constantly reshaping the waves. While generally safe, beginners should approach steeper sections with care. Smaller, more forgiving waves can usually be found further to the right, making Cruz Roja suitable for a wide range of abilities when conditions align.

Yoga at the Surf Villa

Yoga sessions at the Surf Villa are guided by our local instructor Lisa, who also lives in La Pared. With many years of experience, she adapts each class to the group and to individual needs, whether you are completely new to yoga or already have some experience.

Classes take place either on the yoga platform in the villa’s garden or directly on the beach. From the platform, you are rewarded with wide views of the ocean, creating a peaceful and grounding atmosphere.

Yoga is especially beautiful in the early morning or in the evening at sunset. During the summer months, you can watch the sun dip into the sea while practising, making each session a truly memorable experience.

Where to Eat?

Every apartment in the Surf Villa is equipped with its own small kitchen, giving you the freedom to prepare meals whenever it suits you.

In La Pared, there is a small supermarket open seven days a week. You’ll also find two cosy cafés, including Café Cavetoat the edge of the village, a great spot for a light breakfast or a post-surf snack. Once a month, it hosts a relaxed sundowner gathering with live music and DJs.

Down in the picturesque bay of La Bahía, a popular seafood restaurant and beach club attract visitors from across the island, particularly at sunset. Within walking distance of the villa, there is also a local goat farm with a small shop selling freshly made goat cheese and a selection of organic products from Fuerteventura.

For a wider choice of shops and restaurants, the town of Costa Calma is just five kilometres away and offers several supermarkets as well as a range of dining options. On Sundays, a visit to Oasis Park in La Lajita, around ten kilometres away, is also worthwhile. The farmers’ market there features fresh local produce and traditional handicrafts from Fuerteventura.

Things to do outside the surf camp

Away from mass tourism, on the natural surf beach Playa El Viejo Rey, lies the small village of La Pared. This laid-back surf village offers a more authentic side of Fuerteventura, with a relaxed atmosphere and a subtle hippie spirit.

In the village you’ll find a small supermarket, a shop for beach fashion, another specialising in natural jewellery and surfing accessories, two bars and an excellent fish restaurant located directly on the beach. The nearest larger town, Costa Calma, is only a five-minute drive away.

While staying in La Pared, you can:

  • Surf 365 days a year at one of Fuerteventura’s most famous surf beaches
  • Take scenic hikes through the wild and rugged landscape
  • Skate with ocean views
  • Explore the area by mountain bike with one of our local partners
  • Enjoy a refreshing swim in the Atlantic Ocean

What surf equipment should you bring to Fuerteventura?

A long 3/2 wetsuit is more than sufficient for surfing on the island. In summer and autumn, a shorty or even just boardshorts are often enough. Even in winter and spring, there are days when no wetsuit is needed at all.
We also provide Billabong wetsuits and surfboards for rent. If you are joining a surf course, all necessary equipment is already included.

  • +

What’s the weather like on Fuerteventura?

Fuerteventura, part of the Canary Islands, enjoys mild and sunny weather throughout the year, making it a great destination in any season.
Air temperatures are very stable, averaging around 26–30°C in summer and rarely dropping below 18°C in winter. The island has a dry, arid climate with minimal rainfall and constant trade winds that provide a pleasant cooling breeze.
Sea temperatures range from around 22–24°C in summer and remain a comfortable 19–21°C in winter, allowing for year-round swimming and surfing. Often, a short wetsuit or even just swimwear is enough, even during the winter months.
Overall, the combination of warm water, mild air temperatures and steady winds makes Fuerteventura ideal for surfers, holidaymakers and nature lovers alike.
