Surf, Sun & Fun in Moliets Surf Camp

Our aim at Star Surf Camps is to make sure you have the best surf holiday in France possible and in doing so, we have created an action packed week of activities both on and off the water just for you!

One of our lovely guests, Molly…. got to experience our Moliets Surf Camp first hand and has written a few guest blogs for us (and for you) to give you an insight into what you will get to experience on your surf holiday with us is Moliets, France!

Enjoy!!

It’s a Monday night.  The sun is setting into the Atlantic Ocean, bathing Moliets plage in orangey-purples.  On the beach, their shadows growing longer and longer, Star Surf Moliets are dancing on the beach with surf-instructor Alex dj-ing from decks propped up on a surfboard, while a viciously fought game of “flunky-ball” takes place.  For the Moliets camp however, it’s just another week with another entertainment-filled schedule.  With everything going on, our busy entertainment schedule will guarantee that you’ll never be bored at our surf and yoga camp.

Flunkyball

The week normally kicks off with Flunky-ball, a German game that the team at the surf camp have been playing for years.  All we’ll give away here is that the dress code for every week is “flunky” and fancy-dress is highly encouraged.  Make sure you pack your A-game for this Moliets surf camp tradition.

San Sebastián

The midweek trip to San Sebastian is a highlight of most of our guests’ visits.  The jewel of the Basque country, San Sebastian has more michelin stars per square mile than anywhere else in the world.  After a morning surfing, the Moliets camp all pile into a coach to “San Seb” where priority number one is tapas and sangria.  We’ll point out the best tapas spots in the old-town, before we head up the hill to the old town fort- one of the best spots for watching the sunset in Basque country.  And once the sun’s dropped into the Atlantic Ocean?  It’s back down the hill to our favourite bar to dance the night away.

Biarritz

As well as our trip to San Sebastian, we also have weekly trips to Biarritz- the surf capital of France where surfers from California originally brought surfing to Europe back in the 1950s.  We head to Biarritz for the afternoon, where we’ll walk around the famously romantic coastal path to a secluded bay that’s perfect for cliff-diving.  After watching the sun set, we’ll go for dinner and enjoy some of the best fresh seafood France has to offer.

Wine and Cheese tasting

French cuisine is famous for two things; wine and cheese.  So naturally it wouldn’t be a holiday in France without the opportunity to sample some.  After a busy week of flunkyball and day trips, you’ll probably want a chilled night, and wine and cheese night is the perfect solution.  Try some of the best whites and reds from the region, accompanied with a selection of our favourite French cheeses.  It’s completely free for guests and, if you’re lucky, we might even throw in some cheese jokes.

Live Music

Our Moliets surf camp is almost never quiet; there’s always music playing somewhere in the background.  But as well as the constant camp soundtrack of Ben Howard, reggae and more Ben Howard, we also have some fantastically talented musicians coming out to visit us over the summer.  Once a week you’ll be able to catch Jack, Emma and XX performing their acoustic sets here in camp.  Every now and again, we also have open-mic nights, when everyone’s welcome to pitch-in.  You can read more about last year’s here.

Skate-comps

There’s a lot more to our surf and yoga camp that… well… surfing and yoga.  We also have a new and improved skate ramp this year and we’re looking forward to hosting some great competitions over the upcoming season.  It’s the perfect excuse to chill out with a beer and watch some jaw-dropping skating.

Sunset sessions

If you’ve not seen a sunset on Moliets Plage, you’ve missed out.  As the sun drops into the ocean, the whole beach is bathed in purple and orange, so we make the most of it with our chilled sun set sessions.  Go for a surf, do some yoga on the beach with the lovely Wednesday, play volleyball, listen to an acoustic set from one of our musicians with a beer or a glass of wine, or just sit back and enjoy the view.

We hope you enjoyed this blog and got you excited about what goes down in our Moliets Surf Camp.  See you soon!
