Nicknamed Kat, I was born 27 years ago in a country that almost everyone confuses with Slovenia or somehow believes it’s an unbearable cold, post-soviet land somewhere in Eastern Europe. Slovakia, my homeland, is situated in Central Europe just between Poland and Hungary and, yes, it is cold in winter, but can also be very warm in summer!
I spent last year’s summer in a surf camp in the beautiful north of Spain, where I started learning how to surf, so I’m still pretty much a surf beginner. I’ve been working here on sunny Fuerteventura in the Star Surf School and Surf Shop for a few weeks now, together with my colleague and good friend Amelie. She’s actually the reason I’m now finding myself within the surfing world in this surf holiday heaven. I’m really happy to live in a surfer’s paradise like Fuerteventura with so many surf spots and opportunities to learn and improve my surfing all year round.
Although I have been living and surfing here on Fuerteventura for only three months now, I already feel like being at home here. The relaxed atmosphere of Fuerteventura, the open minded people from all around the world – who come to enjoy the fantastic surf conditions and the beautiful nature of the island – and the laid-back surf lifestyle make it really easy for one to settle in.
When I first came to the island, I only wanted to spend a few weeks here in El Cotillo. I was staying at the Star Sur surf house together with other surf holiday guests. I remember their faces on their last day of their surf trip and that’s I when I knew that, for me, this surfing holiday would become more of a long-term relationship. As they say, once you fall in love with Fuerteventura, it’s difficult to leave. And once you fall in love with surfing, it’s for a lifetime! The combination of these two loves is the recipe for happiness which works for me. What do you think?
Well, my job here is to attend to all surf holiday makers interested in surf lessons, Yoga, massages and many other surfing and watersports related activities we offer here in our surf school on Fuerteventura. And to take care of our surf house guests staying in our beautiful apartments right on the beach, to keep everything clean, well-organized and make them feel as much at home on their surf holiday on Fuerteventura as I do!
I’m really looking forward to meeting you on your next surf trip to Fuerteventura and to be surfing the island’s amazing waves with you!
Keep surfing & having a great time,
Kat & the Star Surf Camps Team Fuerteventura
