Our Moliets Yoga instructor Wednesday speaks with us today about why doing Yoga on a regular basis is such a good balance training for surfing.

“Like most people I first started yoga simply because it was a good way to keep strong and flexible, but yoga did what it does best and became about much more than just stretching.
Yoga means unity and one of the great things about practising yoga regularly is building on the relationship between your head and your body. Learning to tune into what your body needs and knowing you have the tools to respond is very empowering. Anybody can benefit from yoga but for those who are active it means you stay active, doing the things you love for longer, like surfing.
Yoga is an excellent way to stretch before or after surfing but the patience that it gives you is invaluable. You learn to give your body the time that it needs and rest easy in the fact that you will get there in your own time, which can be necessary after a hard day in the water. It helps that when we practise yoga at Star Surf Camps, we are based in the forest and if not, we venture out to the beach for class. Your environment can really impact your practice and enjoying the sun disappearing into the sea after a day surfing and a good stretch could probably lift any woes.
Go and try it in one of our surf camps! Yoga has swept surfers all over the world off their feet with all professional surfers using it to improve their flexibility, core strength and surfing performance. So, if after an active day surfing and on the beach you feel like you could do with some stretching, relaxing and “me”-time, yoga is a fantastic way to improve your flexibility and to strengthen your body.
Join our yoga sessions here and see the positive effects of yoga for yourself, your body and your surfing. Choose from 3, 5 or 10 yoga sessions per surf camp week. We provide exercise equipment during the sessions free of charge.
Our enthusiastic and professional Yoga instructors in our Moliets Yoga & Surf Camp make their sessions fun and accessible to ‘Yogis’ of all levels. So, even if you cannot yet touch your toes when bending over, our instructors know just how to help you improve your surfing through yoga. Our registered yoga instructors offer a variety of yoga styles in different settings. Besides the yoga sessions on our yoga deck in the surf camp, we also hold regular yoga sessions on the beach during sunset.
We can’t wait to practise Yoga with you in the beautiful pine forests of Moliets!
