Let Surfing Bring Us Together

The Positive Effects of the Real Surfing Lifestyle

At Star Surf, we promise all our surf holiday costumers will get to experience the real surfing lifestyle when on holiday with us. Managing an international surf camp, I am often asked what the real surfing lifestyle is. For some, it means all-day sunny beach days, surfing perfect waves, hanging out with friends and making new ones from all over the world, and simply having a good time and enjoying life. And I agree, it’s definitely that! But often, it’s even more:

A few weeks ago, our lovely Moliets surf camp manager Katie told us about how surfing always puts a big slime on her face no matter how stressful, annoying, frustrating or demanding her day might have been. Surfing’s simply got something revitalizing, uplifting and refreshing about it which makes it a wonderful sport to do during camp holidays or, for those lucky ones among us, in our daily lives. But there’s still more to the real surfing lifestyle which we got to experience in one of our surf camps in France a few days ago.

Last week, we had some wonderful guests staying with us in our surf camp in Carcans for their surf holidays, Phil and Damien. Damien is Phil’s son, 23 years old and it was his sencond time on a surf holiday with us! During his surf holidays, he was given 1-2-1 care and tuition when in his surf lessons and, what can I say, it was priceless to see how quickly he progressed in the water, how rapidly the bond grew between him and his surf instructor, Douglas, and how it affected all of us in the surf camp. Here’s how Damien’s dad, Phil, describes his surf holiday with us:

“Awesome, Sick, Amazing….. Nah….. Doesn’t come close to what the crew of S.S.C gave us.

To take a trip to the sun with my handicap son (23) with small hope of “making the best of it” and finding a genuine group of real humans who each in their own way, with their own smile and warmth, blessed us by making us feel like part of a loving family.

Professional in their approach and respect for surfing and natural in their approach to making our stay more than we dared to hope for. (And that from ‘strangers’).

I am totally touched and eternally grateful for the way they made space in their program and hearts for Damien, ….. (and me).

We will miss the many new friends we feel we have made in Carcans and are glad to say we will be back before this summer ends.

With regards and deep respect, Phil & Damien”

So, I think, for me, this is what it means to be living the real surfing lifestyle – to experience and learn new things, to push personal limits and broaden your own horizon, to then come together and become part of a big surfing family!

We’d like to say a BIG THANK YOU to you guys for staying with us! It’s not just you two who are touched and grateful. You brought all of us a little closer together by letting us into your family and your world!

We can’t wait to have you back in Carcans!
