“AWESOME!!!” … is what I literally heard all our surfers scream after our surf camp’s day trip to Aqua Park 33 close to Carcans, France. We took a day off surfing southern France’s fantastic waves to become the stars of our very own episode of ‘Total Wipeout’ as we raced through a giant inflatable assault course, climbing huge structures only to slide down – or should I say fall off – the other side again.

The water park is situated in a lake only a short drive from our surf camp in Carcans, France. Warm water, an abundance of floats and attractions like a swinging rope, a giant see-saw and zip-wires to name just a few together with huge speakers that blare out old-school 90s club anthems make the water park a fantastic day’s getaway from the surf camp! And whoever needed a break from all the action in the water could bust out and show off their best moves on top of a platform – which also made for a great recovery!

Undeniably, the absolute highlight of the day for the entire surf camp was the water catapult with which we shot each other to soaring heights in the air, making a person defy gravity like one could only imagine the extinct Dodo bird to look like if evolution had gifted them with the ability to fly. With the weight of one to two people jumping down from the diving platform, one could be launched into the air with all limbs helplessly flailing to a spectacular average of 8 meters!! That’s why this truly remarkable piece of engineering and Aqua Park 33 get a firm thumbs up from all of our Carcans surf camp team!

Besides all the action in the water, there’s a chill-out sun deck with a snack bar that churns out the likes of crepes, burgers and proper chip-shop chips served with French mayo that we all devoured along with ice cold beers. Here, we rested and refueled, tanning our exhausted bodies on the giant bean bags and sun-loungers after a tough day messing about with inflatables!
