Professional Yoga with Wednesday
Our Carcan’s Yoga Instructor Wednesday speaks with us today why doing Yoga on a regular basis is such a good balance training for surfing.
“Like most people I first started yoga simply because it was a good way to keep strong and flexible but yoga did what it does best and became about much more than just stretching.
Yoga means unity and one of the great things about practising yoga regularly is building on the relationship between your head and your body. Learning to tune into what your body needs and knowing you have the tools to respond is very empowering. Anybody can benefit from yoga but for those who are active it means you stay active, doing the things you love for longer, like surfing.
Yoga is an excellent way to stretch before or after surfing but the patience that it gives you is invaluable. You learn to give your body the time that it needs and rest easy in the fact that you will get there in your own time, which can be necessary after a hard day in the water. It helps that when we practise yoga at star surf camps we are based in the forest and if not, we venture out to the beach for class. Your environment can really impact your practise and enjoying the sun disappearing into the sea after a day surfing and a good stretch could probably lift any woes.”
Go and try it in our camps too. In Carcans it’s already included in the package price.
