Celebrating the 5th official year of Star Surf Camps makes us wonder what is so special about us? We asked Joe, one of the founder of Star Surf who worked in France even before the first opening:
Moliets and Carcans turned into Surf Meccas
“You would think after returning to work in the same surf camp for the 7th consecutive year that the excitement would wear off. I have been fortunate enough to watch Moliets and Carcans evolve from sleepy surf towns to the amazing surf destinations they are today. 7 years ago I started my first season here, 2 years before we opened our own, the surf camps were basic at best, old tents, dirty kitchens and poorly run but great fun!
We opened Star Surf Camps because we saw room for improvement and this kick started the surf camp industry in the area. We now work closely with some wonderful neighbouring camps, all of which cater for their domestic nationalities.
Star Surf has and always will be an international camp
Its this international atmosphere that has encouraged our on-going commitment to improving our surf camps and services, sourcing inspiration from all over the world. As our German friends lead the way with the organisation and time keeping, we take this influence and bring it into our camp. Our Spanish friends with their crazy parties and laid back attitude also have a strong influence. We take all these amazing attributes and bring them all together under our Star Surf umbrella with our international team each bringing a different perspective to problem solving and building the camps. Its not only how the camp operates or the atmosphere but it is also the physical changes year on year that help create the amazing experience we give to our guests.
Extra new highlights this year helps making our guests feel welcome and happy
For me the lead up to a new season is one of the most exciting times of the year, designing a new camp with all the improvements we would like to see and being excited to present this to our guests. For example this years changes to the camp include amazing outdoor cinemas, a new large BBQ to feed over 100 people, incredible surf tent with new equipment, indoboard area, a much better kitchen, 15 new hammocks, beautiful night lighting and loads more beach games and entertainment.
Myself and all the staff live in the camps, we build them in early May and give ourselves enough time to build our surfing paradise for the summer. We do this partly through our drive to please our guests but also for our own personal reasons as we too live in the camp with our guests and want to live in a place we enjoy. We are so happy with this years changes, we have a happy camp and a camp we are proud of. Im looking forward to sharing it with you all this summer and catching some waves with you!
