This year is Star Surf’s 5th birthday: hip hip hooray
Joe, Manager of Star Surf Camps looks back to the early years of Star Surf and gives us an insight of how it all began:

“It’s been five years since we started Star Surf Camps. I still remember the day Sami, Pablo and I were sat in our University canteen discussing potential names. Some awful ones were thrown out there and after 3 hours of discussions the name Star Surf Camps was suggested. This was the only name the three of us agreed on instantly. Looking back those 3 hours of discussions were a sign of things to come. Although I would never want to change how we have grown to where we are today, our path has certainly not been a quick or peaceful process.

Sami and Pablo are my two best friends, we work together, surf together and party together. We are completely different people to one another, so much so that from the outside its hard to see how we ever became friends in the first place. I guess you could say that its the differences in our personalities that has helped create the Star Surf that we are all very proud of today. Every detail of the business has been argued, debated and discussed over repeatedly and all decisions eventually fall to a vote (luckily we have 3 business partners to prevent a stale mate). Working in this environment can be difficult but the end result is a well thought out product and brand that we all have fought tooth and nail for (and continue to do so daily) and certainly a business we are all very proud of.

Each year brings with it new challenges, opening new surf camps, re-branding, opening new surf schools, recruiting new staff and reinventing ourselves time and time again. We do so whilst remaining true to what we believe in, fun and friendly service and a holiday people remember for all the right reasons! I was asked to write a blog post to summarise the last 5 years, to discuss how we started the business and how we got it to where it is today. It would be impossible to summarise 5 years into a blog post and in doing so wouldn’t do justice to the thousands of amazing people that have visited our camps in the last 5 years and the friends we made along the way.

One night in San Sebastian provides enough material to fill a magazine let alone a blog post! Instead I will leave by saying this, Sami and Pabs I love ya, to all the team who work with us all over the world I thank you, and to all the guests, old and new who have visited us, keep surfing, smiling and hopefully I will see you again soon! There are big things happening in the Star Surf world, be sure to watch this space as we charge in head first into the next amazing 5 years!”
