Best Surfing Destinations for 2023

Where to go Surfing in 2023?

“To surf, or not to surf?” That is most certainly not the question, because the answer to surfing shall, should and always will be an enthusiastic ‘YES’! Therefore, the real question you should be asking yourself is, “Where to surf”? To help you find your ideal surf destination and surf holidays, we’ve asked the experts – our Star Surf Camps Team – about the best surfing destinations for 2023.

Fuerteventura

Liz: “Canaries, Canaries, Canaries!”

If you ask me where to spend your 2023 surfing holidays, there’s only one destination: The Canary Islands! I might be a little biased because I lived there for a while, but who can say ‘no’ to all-year-round warm temperatures in- and outside the water, the sunniest and warmest climate in all of Europe, volcanic landscapes and wave conditions suited to all surfing ability? Exactly, no one! There’s a reason they call Fuerteventura “Europe’s Hawaii”!

France

Justine: “Vive la France!”

My favourite surf spots in the entire world are in the Southwest of France, without a doubt! This is where I’ve learned to surf and love returning to every surfing season. If I’m honest, I’m a fair-weather surfer. I love warm water temperatures and surfing in a shortie which you get in France around late August/ September time. And, although you do get the occasional week where French waves are heavy and scary, most days, it’s an easy paddle-out and super smooth, fun ride. Just bliss! That’s why my recommendation for your surf holidays in 2019 is France.

JOE: So many great surf spots!

If you’re an intermediate surfer looking for the perfect surf holiday destination for 2023,  then I cannot recommend France highly enough. Here, you have miles and miles of coastline with uncountable surf spots. And you know what this means: you are pretty much guaranteed waves on a one to two week-long surf trip! The quality of waves is equally as impressive as their quantity with consistent swells reaching the Southwest coast between April and October. Plus, the cherry on top is that line ups – compared to other southern European countries with surfable coastlines – are still pretty much empty. France has just got it all!

Morocco

SAMI: Morocco all the way

I agree with Justine and Liz; both, the Canary Islands and France are amazing surf holiday destinations in their own right. However, the #1 surf holiday destination for 2023 is definitely Morocco. It is on many surfers’ bucket lists for a good reason: The true beauty of the length and consistency of Moroccan waves and the variety of surf on offer. The waves here are some of the longest in the world, most of which break over sand bottom point breaks. And Morocco is still relatively cheap to travel to and to get by in. What more could you want for your perfect 2023 surf holiday adventure?

Spain

AMELIE: Surf the Spanish way

I will be spending my 2023 surf holidays on the beautiful Bay of Biscay, in the North of Spain. I just love it there! I’m always a lot more relaxed when I’m in Spain. For some reason, time seems to be going just that little bit slower over there. It’s the same with my surfing; whereas I normally try to squeeze in a surf into my daily routine, here, I wake up leisurely, have a surf, then a siesta, then another surf before I eat my heart out and fall asleep with a smile on my face. That’s pretty much it and I’m smiling now just thinking about it. Huh!
